GO AHEAD, BE A “WINE-O”

Finally the day has arrived when research has proven what we Moms already knew in our heart of hearts…wine is good for you! A new Harvard Research study has shown that women who drink 1-2 glasses of wine a day at midlife are more likely than non-drinkers to reach age 70 without any major chronic disease or major cognitive or physical impairment.

That’s all I needed to hear, bottoms up! When is that next Mom’s Night out?

PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC!

My longtime theory has been proven…once again!

A recent study published in the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research (2011; doi: 10.15191JSC.obo13e318237e7b3) suggests that athletic performance improves when a client gets to choose their own music.  “This study demonstrated increased performance during an explosive exercise and an altered mood state when listening to self-selected music,” the researchers reported.

So in addition to your New Years Resolution of hitting the gym hard and working on your bikini body, add some new tunes to your iPod and rock that body right!

KEEP YOUR KIDS MOVING!

I know the Summer heat is beating down upon all of us but there are plenty of ways to keep you and your children fit throughout the entire year. Check out this kid below. This is an amazing idea and concept for our children. With childhood obesity on the rise in the United States we need to do everything possible to help us fight this upward trend. Watch and learn…

GET THE JIGGLES OUT

Now ladies, we all want great arms right? I think I am safe to say that none of us want any part of our arms to actually wave other than our hands. That being said there is a simple exercise that takes all of 3 minutes to accomplish. Triceps Dips can be done as a part of your normal exercise routine if you have one, or if your don’t just take a quick break at you cubicle for those working Moms who want to tone.

All you need is a stable chair  of normal height (please no wheels). Push your chair up against a wall so the chair does not move. Start by sitting on the chair and place your hands on the front of the chair under your thighs with your hands pointing forwards. Slowly push yourself away from the chair by walking forward with your feet while supporting your weight mostly with your arms and slightly with your legs. All the while keeping your butt close to the edge of the chair. Your feet should be flat on the ground, knees at 90 degrees with your shoulders and hips in a vertical line. Once you are in this position lower your bottom towards the ground by bending your elbows and keeping your back completely vertical. Your legs are there to guide and support you, NOT to do the work. USE YOURS ARMS and contract those Triceps. When your elbows reach 90 degrees, power back up to the beginning position using only your arms and do not lock your elbows. Complete 20-25 repetitions for 3 sets with a 30 second rest between sets. Add these into your current exercise routine or as a part of your weekly routine and your arms will be summer ready in no time!

DRINK MORE WATER!

Spring is here and Summer is coming so think drink. Busy Mom’s like us do not consume nearly enough fluids to replenish and maintain a healthy hydration level. So here’s the deal, go to your nearest Target and buy yourself a fancy BPA Free water bottle in your favorite color. Fill it up with ice cold water, if you are feeling a bit crazy maybe even add some lemon. Treat that bottle like your own spawn and bring it EVERYWHERE with you. Try to consume at least 3-4 full bottles a day. If you hardly drink anything now, start with 1-2 bottles day and work your way up to 3-4.

The babies in the video below have the right idea! Oh yeah, don’t worry, the constant trips to the restroom will become second nature and in the end it will all be worth it…trust me;-)
